Track and field is a series of athletic contests that consist of running, jumping and throwing. Athletes who participate in this sport train for hours on end to compete for their team and for first place.

Brayden Adams is a junior and participates in the 100m, 200m and 400m dash. He is also on the 4×4 and 4×1 relays for varsity. Brayden has partaken in track since ninth grade and his running shoes are filled with experience.

“My favorite event is 4×1 because it’s a really fun relay race. I like that It includes the whole team, so we can work together and cheer each other on. It’s also fast paced and gets your adrenaline going which is always exciting,” Adams said.

Back in March 2021, Brayden competed in the Igloo Invitational. In the 200m dash, he  ran a 24.2. In the 100m dash, he placed fifth; running an 11.9 which was his best. Those aren’t the only goals he is looking to conquer though.

“For this year I would like to get my 4×4 down to at least a 3:30 and get my individual events down without injuring myself. By districts I would also like to be able to qualify for states in the 4×1,” Adams said.

Adams works hard in and outside of school. The conditioning it takes to compete in track is nowhere near easy.

“My least favorite event is definitely the open 400m dash. It’s a very tiring and difficult race to get through mentally and physically. It’s one of those things that you have to keep telling yourself you can do it,” Adams said.

Even having the task of balancing school and track out together he still has room for plenty of hobbies.

“I play in a punk rock band on guitar, named Abstentious. I enjoy writing and performing our music which is out on Spotify now. I also like camping and bike riding,” Adams said.

Over his three years of experience he has competed in many events and traveled all over with the track team. Next year will be his last as he will be a senior, but he has made many memories along the way.

“Once we had a meet at Central Dauphin which is about 45 minutes away. On our way back on the bus, one of the tires caught on fire and fell off. I remember a flaming tire rolling down the highway, and it was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen,” Adams said.

Adams looks to further his track career into his senior year and continue his passions. His hard work and athleticism will definitely play a rule in his future.
