The Mountain Lion Back Pack Program provides students with backpacks of food every Friday for 32 weeks of the school year. The backpacks contain food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drink for Saturday and Sunday. Students council, Horseshoe yearbook and Mountain Echo newspaper will sponsor a food collection to benefit the program.

“If people who live in a community don’t step up and help others, that only hurts the community we live in: It’s simply the right thing to do,” adviser Kimberly Shope said.

The food collection will take place Oct. 8 in the high school parking lot.  Students will be available to direct cars and assist with the collection.  Anyone unable to make it to the event can consider cash donations online.
