Thumbs up! Kadyn Carey is a senior who is 18-years-old. He has decided to vote in the upcoming elections.

November elections are coming around the corner. There are new 18-year-olds who are ready to vote. Elections can be hard because everyone has different opinions when it comes to voting.

To be able to legally vote a person has to be at least 18-years-old. Some seniors in high school are 17-years-old turning 18 before the elections. Most high school students have the right to vote.

Schools don’t teach much about voting and how the world is today. Teenagers who are eligible to vote don’t know much about politics. Politics aren’t talked about enough to let 18-year-olds decide who they should vote for, and why they should vote for someone.

The voting age should be changed to 21-years-old because new 18-year-olds are still so uninformed. The legal age to drink and to be able to buy alcohol is set at 21. Being able to purchase alcohol is a major responsibility. Being able to vote is an even bigger one. But the government is allowing people to vote before they are able to purchase alcohol and drink.

Teenagers would only have the information on how to vote and why they should if their parents explain to them why they should and how they do it. The issue with that is most parents are going to be biased to one side because everyone has their own opinion. With this biased standpoint, it is difficult to get both sides of an issue. If teenagers want to vote, then they want to have their rights to vote, and that means they should have their own opinions which are not pressured by a family member or anyone else. They need to be able to think and decide on their own, but no one at school teaches them a lot about it. It’s hard not to rely on a friend or a family member who votes when the voter has no information on voting.

Not many younger people watch the news daily. Only a few teenagers keep up with the news and daily events in life. Many are not informed with the powers the people can have, and how different people who run for elections will do different things for the world we live in.

Do you think people should have the right to vote at 18 or 21?

Many teenagers can get their information on social media. Different apps that younger people get their information off of include: Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Social media can’t always be trusted. Each person who posts something relating to politics is not fact checked.

Everyone will have their own thoughts and opinions on different people who are running for different elections, but they need to get their own thoughts and opinions about the people who are running before they can decide what to do with that information.

Teenagers should be taught all of their rights and more about today’s world than in the past and history. They need to understand who is doing what for where in this world nowadays.

An 18-year-old senior, Kadyn Carey, has decided he wants to vote in the November’s elections.

“I feel like it’s a civil duty to vote because that’s how our democracy works,” Carey said.

Mason Crownover is another 18-year-old who is voting in the November elections.

“We live in a democracy, it’s our given right that we can exercise our right to vote. Even though some people say, ‘Oh, my vote doesn’t matter”, it does. I think as a free American, it’s a good idea to exercise our right to vote,” Crownover said.

The 26th amendment is for United States citizens to have the right to vote and not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state when they are 18-years-old.

Everyone has their thoughts about voting and if there is a certain age to vote. Most people say they should be able to vote at the age of 18 because that’s when people legally become adults and start having adult responsibilities. Also it is their right as a U.S. citizen.

Others say 21-years-old is better because it is a more reasonable age for younger people to be involved in more complex things such as drinking and buying alcohol. Every teenager should have all of the information before voting.

They do have the right to vote at 18-years-old because of the 26th amendment, but also it should be moved to 21-years-old because 18-years-old are less informed on that type of information dealing with all of the people and sides.

The more responsible age for people to be able to start voting at would be 21-years-old, not at 18-years-old when they are less informed about certain things they should know before they make their choices.
