When fall sports come to a close, then comes Districts. The boys’ and girls’ cross country team traveled to Reedsville for their final meet. The cross county team is familiar with the course as they had an invitational at Reedsville in the earlier season.

“I like the course because it’s very flat and has challenging parts to it. It’s very fast, so it goes by a lot faster. I like coming back to it for Districts,” sophomore Alana Rinehart said.

The girls team placed second in the District 6 meet, with senior Reese Wilber placing tenth overall, qualifying for the State Meet. Wilber has qualified for States for the past four years.

“I made States my freshman year and was hoping I would make it my senior year,” Wilber said.

According to Wilber, qualifying for States from freshman year to senior year is an exciting thing to experience.

“I was very excited and relieved that I was able to make it this year for the fourth time,” Wilber said.

Sophomore Gracie Gioiosa came in fourteenth overall, missing States by three places.

“I was disappointed that I didn’t make it, but I was happy I got a season personal record,” Gioiosa said

The boys’ team placed fourth with sophomore Camdyn Woomer leading the team placing fifthteenth overall.

“It was one of my worst races, but it gave me motivation to keep working over the off-season and get my times lower,” sophomore Andrew Quinn said.

“I was excited to see how all of our hard work during the summer months of training, and throughout the season would pay off, but I was also very nervous,” boys’ head coach James D’Angelo said.

Both runners and coaches faced nerves and excitement throughout the time leading up to Districts.

My anticipation for the combined Districts VI and District IV Championship Meet and the PIAA State Qualifier race was accompanied by excitement,” head girls coach Tabitha Quinn said.

“I felt stressed and anxious in the days leading up to Districts because it’s a big race,” freshman Emerson Snare said.

A lot of teammates move into different sports throughout the season to stay in shape such as joining swim or indoor.

“Doing indoor will help me with running all year and keeps me in shape for the next cross season and track in the spring,” Rinehart said.

Some of the athletes also take time off from sports to take time to recover and get ready for track season.

“Taking time off from running will give me time to prepare for track season,” sophomore Anna Resig said.
