Planet Fitness offers little for cross training athletes

Planet Fitness is a bad gym for people that take working out seriously. Planet Fitness has always been a staple whether it be in your town/city or for your New Year’s resolution that you’ll most likely give up in a week or two. I’ve been to my fair share of gyms in the last two to three years of working out regularly, and I have to admit I’ve never had a worst experience anywhere other than Planet. If you’re the type of person who enjoys working out then Planet Fitness is not a gym for you. Besides being a treadmill safari, the gym offers little to any equipment for people who are there to put on some size.

The gym has an obsession with having treadmills. For a gym company that makes millions of dollars a year, you would think they would have enough to buy more equipment other than a treadmill or another rowing machine. I recently went there with a friend to try out other gyms since the one that I go to increased its monthly payment, and when we got to Planet Fitness to see how it would go, we found ourselves waiting on dumbbell hungry hoarders and sneaky machine robbers. Now I’ve been to that gym a few times with my mom as a kid but never took exercising too seriously then, but I did not know what we were in for when we got there. We wanted to check things out for an hour, but an hour turned into two and a half hours.

Now it gets even worse because the reason we lost our machine or equipment was because we struggled and I mean struggled to find some water! I’ll admit we weren’t too focused on looking at everything but from what we could find, there were only two water dispensers in the workout area. So I guess a safari isn’t the right choice of words because with few water sources like that it’s more of a desert. My final complaint at the gym is about its day pass fee because if you’re just going to check things out then bring some money with you. Now this is only a minor complaint since they allow a 1 free day pass but after that it’s $20 or nothing.

Now I don’t fully hate Planet Fitness, I just think some things need to change. It really could be good! It has an affordable monthly payment and always seems to be close by. If it made some changes more people would probably enjoy it and its lunk alarm. They have the wrong message to spread a healthy lifestyle because being healthy isn’t “who can run the fastest” Or ”who can do the most random movement with a dumbbell?” It’s about a balanced combination between weights and cardio.  Although that would be good, it doesn’t look like Planet Fitness is going to change anytime soon, so it looks like everyone will just be stuck running.
