Announcements for 9/21/2023

Attention Students: Are you interested in being a lawyer? Do you enjoy acting or
theatre? Are you looking to improve your public speaking skills? If so, Mock Trial
could be the club for you! The AAHS Mock Trial Team will hold its first
informational meeting next Thursday, 9/28, in room B-311 from 3:00 – 3:30 PM. If
you have any questions or cannot attend, please email Mrs. Negri.
Attention Boys Basketball – There will be an open gym tonight (Thursday) from 6:30-8:00 in
the fieldhouse.
Hey Altoona! You have off school this Friday, so that gives you plenty of time to get your
COWBOY/COWGIRL gear ready for Friday’s home football game against CDE! See you in the
Maniacs student section in your cowboy gear!
Attention Friends of Rachel members: Our first meeting will be held TODAY during period 1 in
the open cafeteria. You must pick up a pass in the library and have your first-period teacher
sign the pass. If the pass is not signed, you will not be permitted to stay at the meeting. Thank
you.
An admissions rep from Penn State will be here during lunches today, Thursday,
September 21 st . If you have given any thought to going to Penn State after
graduation, please stop by the table to say hello and ask any questions you may have.
Attention swimmers: We will start swim clinics on Monday, September 25 from 3-5 in
the pool. Clinics will be held Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There will be team
members there to help guide new people with strokes. Females wear one-piece suits
and boys wear swim trunks or jammers. See you Monday!
Attention 10 th through 12 th grade students: Did you pass Art 1 with a 93% or
higher? Is your overall GPA above an 86%? If so, National Art Honor Society wants
your membership! Applications can be found in the Art classrooms. Please see
Mrs. Curry, Mr. Bowser or Mr. Hoover with any questions. Applications are due by
September 29 th .
Attention Juniors: Just a reminder if you are interested in participating in the Career
Shadowing opportunity, the application and parent consent form must be turned into
the Guidance Office no later than this Friday, September 22 nd .

Attention 9 th Grade Students: Are you a high-achieving student with plans on
attending post-secondary education? Will you be a first-generation college student or
do you come from a low-income family? Do you have positive school behavior, a
strong work ethic, and an excellent attendance record? If you answered YES to any of
these questions, then Project SOAR may be for you! For more information, please
check your email as soon as possible! Applications and information were sent to you
on Friday, from Mrs. Dumm. The deadline to return applications is Thursday,
September 28 th .
Attention Juniors and Seniors: The Class of 2024 and The Class of 2025 will be
holding their next fundraiser for prom! Marianna Hoagies order forms are available in
your email and outside of Mrs. Dumm’s room in B120. Orders and money are due to
Mrs. Dumm in B120 or Mr. Dumm in A208 no later than Friday, October 6 th . Delivery
will be on October 18 th . We are hoping that this can be one of our last fundraisers!
Please help us make it a great one!
Attention Students: The sign Language Club will meet today in room B223
immediately after school until 4:15. We will be discussing an upcoming opportunity to
sign with friends from the Sparkle Cheerleading Squad. Students with no experience
can learn the basics of signing and those with more experience can practice signing
together. Students will learn and use the manual alphabet (fingerspelling), numbers,
and basic American Sign Language Vocabulary related to seasonal themes and
interests. Please join the AAHS Sign Language Club Classroom with the code

Attention Seniors looking for scholarship opportunities: The Coca-Cola Scholars
Foundation awarded over 6,750 scholarships last year totaling over $81 million in
educational support. This year, applications are being accepted through October 2 nd .
Please stop by the literature rack outside of the Guidance office to pick up a packet of
information.
Attention Astronomy Club: Don’t forget about this afternoon’s planning field trip,
cookout, and observatory evening at Fort Roberdeau, as we pick our locations for the
Haunted Fort in October. The buses will pick up at the Planetarium entrance at
4:00pm sharp; please be back to the Planetarium no later than 3:45pm. You may also
just chill in the Planetarium after school if you prefer.
Please bring a jacket, comfortable shoes, and any snacks you would like. We will have
a cookout after our trail walk, and visit the Mt. Lion Observatory with the Starlight
Astronomy Club for some skywatching before we return to school at 8:00pm.
Remember, this trip is only open to club members who turned in signed permission
slips to Mr. Krug. See you then!

Attention Scholarship Seekers: If you are a senior and have been employed at one
of the Member Clubs of Western Pennsylvania Golf Association as a club employee in
the clubhouse, the golf shop, swimming pool or tennis courts for at least 2 seasons,
then be sure to stop by the literature rack outside of the guidance suite and pick up a
scholarship application. Applications must be mailed in and the deadline is Nov. 30th.
