The Souls’ Trilogy by Harley Laroux

I know. I am cheating by putting an entire series on my top five. However, I read two of the three novels in July and haven’t stopped thinking about them since.

The Souls’ Trilogy consists of: “Her Soul to Take,” “Her Soul for Revenge” and “Soul of a Witch.” I adored all three of these, but my personal favorite is “Soul of a Witch.”

“Her Soul to Take” follows Leon and Rae. Rae is a university student and paranormal investigator. Leon is a demon bound to the Hadleigh family. The family needs to sacrifice Rae to their god. But Leon will stop at nothing to make sure that Rae is safe even if it means taking her soul in the process.

“Her Soul for Revenge” is the story of Juniper and Zane. Juniper escaped being sacrificed to The God seven years ago. Now she wants revenge on those who betrayed her. Zane is a demon who has taken a liking to Juniper. If she gives him her soul, he will help her to bring down those who deceived her years before.

“Soul of a Witch” is about Everly and Callum. Everley is a witch and Callum is an Archdemon. Everly is on a mission. To kill The God. She enlists the help of Callum who is no stranger to killing gods. Taking her soul would give Callum the ability to protect her. Callum wants nothing more than to keep Everly safe and help her achieve her goals.

The Souls’ Trilogy is a paranormal thriller/ romance. It took me a little while to get used to the darker side of the story, but once I knew what was happening, I was hooked.

“Elvis and Me” by Priscilla Beaulieu Presley

I rarely read biographies or memoirs. However, I saw this novel in a used bookstore and decided to give it a go. From the moment I opened the first page, I was sucked into the world of Elvis Presley and the challenges Priscilla faced during her time with him.

Seeing the love Elvis had with Priscilla completely broke my heart. At 14, she fell in love with the King, but it took her well into her adult years to realize how toxic their relationship truly was. There were multiple times I had to shut the book and reflect on what she went through at such a young age.

For me, I’ve never been someone who loved Elvis and his music. I feel he is an overrated artist. Regardless of my opinions of him as an artist, I can say that I despise him as a human being. He wasn’t a good person. He was incredibly flawed, but everyone is. My main problem with him is that he wasn’t willing to see his faults and the negative aspects of his personality until it was too late.

I loved this memoir and the truth it brought to not only Elvis and Priscilla but also to that time period. It gave me a chance to reflect on how I view relationships.

“Binding 13” by Chloe Walsh

I heard about “Binding 13” months ago. I was petrified to read it because I heard nothing but impeccable things about it. Not to mention, “Binding 13” is over 600 pages. Talk about intimidating.

Let me just say, “Binding 13” has become one of my favorite books of 2024. I could not put this book down no matter how hard I tried. I was up late multiple nights to finish this novel.

“Binding 13” follows Shannon Lynch and Johnny Kavanagh. Johnny is the star of the Rugby team and Shannon is the new girl at Tommen College. On her first day, Johnny accidentally hits Shannon in the back of the head with a Rugby ball. From there, the two begin to form a friendship that gradually turns into more.

Although “Binding 13” is a romance, there is so much more to the story. The friendships in this novel are hands-down some of the best I’ve ever seen. The whole time I was reading, I felt like a part of the group. I fell right into the story and am still feeling completely immersed weeks after I have read it.
