On Jan. 27, the swim team competed against Hollidaysburg high school as their final home meet.
The girls lost 100 – 56, as well as the boys 74 – 65
“Considering this was my first and only year on the team, the last home meet was sad because of the friendships I have made,” senior Isabelle Wolfard said. “I also have enjoyed getting to see my family support me when I compete.”
Both teams have performed to their extent all this season, with many of the members on the girls’ team making it to districts.
“I am super proud of everyone that made it to districts,” senior captain Charlie Kephart said. “I hope to see everyone do well, and I am excited to compete at my final district competition.”
The team, along with the coaches, experienced a world of emotions after the meet. When the meet concluded, everyone came together and the seniors spoke in the middle of the circle.
The team’s 14 seniors had an impact on the team, but the underclassmen have just as much of an impact on them..
“Most of the underclassmen are better swimmers than me, so maybe they should be the ones giving me advice,” senior Eli Rosenberry said.
While the team created strong bonds with one another, the coaches also made bonds with them.
“After the last home meet, we all met in the back corner of the pool deck, just like every other home meet,” assistant coach Megan Yingling said. “But what was different this time is we allowed our seniors the opportunity to speak. All 14 seniors stepped forward and gave a speech. During their speeches the number one thing they spoke about, was how welcoming and comfortable they felt being a part of the team. That right there is a win for us as coaches”.
Though the teams are sad to see the seniors leaving, they will always cherish the memories they made with them this season.
