Dear Editor,
My view on the cell phones is they should not only be allowed in lockers but we should be allowed to have them in some places. And some of my reasons of why is that there are videos of a locked case for phones in a school that kids put their phones in and then in the video they are outside during a fire drill and then she gives the kids back their phones. And this is something because this shows that we can still kind of have our phones in school in places but just need a place to put them. Also I think this would help some kids because they get worried a lot about their family and that they can communicate to their family. Also they would be able to get help faster because they can call the cops or some other emergency service. And then there’s the way how some places like Texas and New York have banned cell phones. But what if they need their cell phones to call home or text for a ride or something like an emergency? They won’t have their phones, so they would have to tell the teacher which most don’t do because they are scared about what would happen.
Second, there’s also the way we use technology everyday even without phones like our Chromebooks. I have seen people who play games on them or watch videos. And so they are doing the same thing they are doing with Chromebooks that they would do with their phones, and they email each other during school.
Also many people would feel safer with their phones because they can be able to connect with people to find out what’s going on. And then this website link took a poll and 78% of parents want their kids to have phones in school for emergencies. And then 58% to find out when they are needed and also to get in touch with their kids. And then 48% to coordinate transportation to and from school. And then also 45% to communicate with them with their mental health and needs.
In conclusion, I feel that there are enough good arguments that we should be able to have are cell phones out of our lockers
Sincerely,
Hayden Farabaugh
