Dear Mountain Lion Echo,
I think that we should change the dress code so that girls can wear cropped tops. Most of the shirts girls buy are cropped, but we can’t wear them. Sometimes we get really hot and want to wear clothes that show skin, so we can cool off if we’re hot. Tank tops should be allowed to be worn because it’s not fair that the boys get to wear tank tops, but girls don’t get to. If we have an event after school, and we have to wear a tank top and we can’t go home after school then we have to wear it to school. If it’s also a piece of a uniform then it’s required to wear it.
Also I think ripped jeans above mid thigh and finger tip length should be allowed too because some of the boys can wear them above finger tip length but the girls can’t because it’s distracting. But most of the jeans at stores for girls are all mostly ripped and that’s also the style girls like. Also we should be allowed to wear jean shorts above finger tip length and above mid thigh but right now we aren’t because they are inappropriate. Also all the jean shorts at stores for girls are really short because that’s the style of jean shorts that girls like.
I think that’s why the school should change the dress code because the guys can wear whatever they want, but we can’t because it’s inappropriate and distracting. I think everyone should follow the dress code because even if it changes they should still follow the rule because if they don’t they can get an after school detention if they don’t follow the dress code. Some of the schools around Altoona can wear tank tops, crop tops, ripped jeans above mid thigh and finger tips, and jean shorts above mid thigh and finger tips and some schools don’t Obviously, if it is okay to wear in some schools, it must not be too disruptive or affect educational learning, so I think that Altoona should adopt similar dress codes.
Sincerely, Zoey Wicker

yes thank you thank you girls for helping me show a point .Teach our men and boys that women are HUMAN NOT AN OBJECT. we should be able to wear short, ripped jeans and tank tops to school just because men and boys can be rude and disgusting does not mean we should have to cover our whole body. This is showing them its okay to behave the way they do and its not.

Dress codes like these continue to teach boys and men that women are objects. The thought process behind these rules are the same as they were 100 years ago. Teach our men and boys that women are human not objects. Women and men both should be able to walk into a room without any type of judgement with or without clothing. It’s only called a distraction because the person creating the rule feels distracted and that’s a perverse way to look at any woman.
