The 2018 boys’ tennis team is made up of 12 varsity players and 17 junior varsity players. There are 18 matches and one scrimmage.

Eric Hovan is the coach for the boys’ tennis team.

“Tennis is a lifelong sport, so we encourage people to join our team.  We would love to have the student body come out and support the team as it definitely helps your play to have someone cheering for you,”  Hovan said.

The same positive attitude is reflected among the players. The team is confident in its future successes.

“Despite the fact that tennis is not necessarily the first spring sport that people think of, our tennis team has consistently been extremely successful. I feel as though more students would try tennis if they were exposed to it through promotion at school. Tennis is a lifetime sport, so I definitely think that more people should consider trying it,” junior Michael Shimminger said.

The team believes more student involvement would impact them in a positive way.

“We want more fans in the stands,” junior Jonah Brandt said.

Members of the team also keep their schoolwork a number one priority, but tennis still gives them a chance to have fun.

“[Tennis] definitely takes up a good bit of time in my schedule, but it’s also very important  in managing the stress of school by having something to look forward to every day. It really helps me stay active and have a schedule instead of going home after school every day doing nothing. Also, it’s super fun to go out with a bunch of really cool guys and play an enjoyable sport and just enjoy being a part of a great team,” senior Ethan Katcher said.
