Letter to the Editor: Full day off for prom

Dear Editor,

As a senior at Altoona Area High School, I believe it is unfair that the seniors don’t get the full day off for prom, as they have in past years. Instead of having the whole day off, we have to do our senior walk throughout the elementary schools, junior high and senior high. The senior walk takes up half of our day already and doesn’t always go right on schedule. We would have a half-day like we did our junior year and for some, our sophomore year, which is unfair. The tradition should continue throughout future years. If they wanted to change the rules, they should wait until the new school is built. Every school around Altoona, seniors have off the day of prom, which should still be the case. The senior walk can be moved to the following week, June 1 or June 2, which are the last couple of days of school. The whole day off for seniors is a great thing because of how hard they’ve worked throughout the year and deserve a break from school. The day off gives the seniors time to relax and save energy up for afterglow. If they have to come to school at 7 a.m., they won’t have enough energy to participate in afterglow the entire time. Afterglow lasts until early in the morning, the kids are going to be sleepy after waking up early for school and dancing the night away at prom. Seniors deserve the whole day off of prom, so they have enough energy to have fun all night long.
