Introduction to Publication students designed magazine covers to feature journalism students. Megan Shultz designed this cover to feature Madison Cowfer.

From the heart racing feeling of stepping up to the starting line to the pressure of having to finish  homework, it is almost impossible to keep it all straight. Throughout senior Maddie Cowfer’s high school experiences, she had to meet deadlines while also making sure she stayed on top during track and cross country meets.

Self motivation is a difficult trait to maintain, but it can be helpful to keep improving performance.

Cowfer has been involved in track since seventh grade and started cross country in eighth.

“Honestly, my motivation comes from trying to talk myself into finishing the race, “ Cowfer said.

Cowfer seeks advice from her coaches and advisers.

“My editors and advisers help me because they want me to get better and push me to do that, “ Cowfer said.

For someone to want to continue with what they are involved in, they have to truly enjoy it. Without the love and effort there is really no point to keeping up with it.

“The improvement is what keeps me going because when I notice that I improved in one, that makes me want to improve in the other, “ Cowfer said.

Many students have complained about their workload before, then all the extra curricular activities get added on. With this, it is much harder to complete all the homework because of the time frame.

“Time management is important, especially with trying to balance all of my school work, practice, and writing stories, “ Cowfer said.

These easy tips have gotten Cowfer through high school and will continue to help her during her college experience. She is hoping to continue her writing and running career, possibly at Mount Aloysius or Penn State. Cowfer wants the underclassmen to know that things are going to get hard but as long as they keep going with that momentum, they’ll get through it.
