Freshman, sophomore executive committees to take trip to CORE
On Dec. 6 the underclassman executive committee will attend a field trip to the Center for Organ recovery and Education. Adviser of the freshman and sophomore executive committees Thomas Palfey will be supervising the trip.
Palfey is the Department Chair for Health and Physical Education. Forms including the itinerary have already been passed out to the students. This trip provides the students with more knowledge and information on organ donation and gives them an insight into how many lives it has saved and how many more can be saved. The students will hear from past organ donors and recipients.
The transportation will be provided by the Intermediate Unit 13 out of Lancaster. They will be financing the $1700 fee for the Fullington bus.
“When they ask you on your driver’s license renewal if you would like to donate three dollars, this is some of the things they do with that money,” Palfey said.
There are several myths associated with organ donations and Palfey hopes this trip will debunk those myths. This trip will allow students to make a more informed decision when they get their driver’s license as to whether or not they are going to become an organ donor.
“I feel grateful that our students have been provided with this opportunity because of a grant that one of our retired health teachers, Mark Sapita, got started about five years ago,” Palfey said.
