On Wednesday, March. 1, the chorus will be holding their first karaoke night in the chorus room from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Karaoke night will allow chorus members to pick the songs they want to sing for the night.  Faculty have been in invited to participate as well.

“I know we’ll have some people singing musical theater pieces, some people singing pop and rock pieces. It’s just a variety of things,” chorus teacher Kelly Sipes said.

Karaoke night is a chance for all the different chorus classes to get a chance to sing together outside of a concert setting.

“It’s only open to members of the choir. I have considered, depending on how things go, opening it up to a larger population of the school, but this is kind of our trial run,” Sipes said.

This event is also open to faculty who are interested in the chorus.

“I have invited teachers who might want to sing to be part of that event. So far, no one has committed, but I know that some students have some favorites. They knew Mr. Marasco can sing, and there are some other teachers with some nice talents,” Sipes said.

Karaoke night will be similar to karaoke days the chorus has in class.

“We occasionally have karaoke days in class. On special days, such as the day before break and that type of thing. We thought it would be fun to do an actual event because the only time where people in chorus get to be together is during our concerts. We have three different classes that are all chorus periods. So some of the members don’t really get to sing with their friends and, so we thought that’d be a cool way to come together. We’re going to have food and lights and really make it a cool atmosphere,” Sipes said.

Karaoke night was an idea suggested by a chorus student.

“I thought that it would be fun to add activities to chorus more than just a class you have every day and two concerts throughout the year. I wanted to make chorus feel more like a hobby than just a school class,” senior Eric Carlheim said.

The chorus plans to have more karaoke nights before the end of the school year.

“I would enjoy having more karaoke nights with the school, and maybe it’ll get people to try new things they might not have before. Music is very important, and I know not many people know that until they actually get into music,” Carlheim said.

Karaoke night gives the chorus an opportunity to practice songs for other extracurriculars.

“I personally take karaoke days as a day to show my talent to others to be inspired or to practice songs I need for other important events like auditions and talent shows. It also makes a lot of people happy to get out what they need to by singing a simple song,” Carlheim said.

Karaoke night gives the chorus a chance to sing with fellow students from other class periods.

“My friend and I are singing a duet song, and it’s something we’ve worked on so I’m super excited to get to perform it,”  senior Keira Mayhue said.

This event gives the chorus a chance to pick the songs they want to sing that they normally wouldn’t sing in class.

“I love karaoke days because everyday we’re singing. However, sometimes it’s songs you like to sing, and sometimes it’s songs that maybe aren’t your favorite. Karaoke days give us a chance to sing songs that we know and we love,” Mayhue said.
