Chick-Fil-A triumphs over Raising Cane’s
It’s safe to say Chick-Fil-A has amassed a cult following among its fans and ranks high on many people’s fast food rosters. Between their famous waffle fries, eight different sauces or any of their other menu items, Chick-Fil-A tends to reign supreme. However, one chicken restaurant may serve as a challenger: Raising Cane’s.
Raising Cane’s, commonly referred to as just Cane’s, has 600 locations in five countries. One of these locations is just a 45 minute drive away, in State College,Pa. Cane’s is similar to Chick-Fil-A in several ways, such as having similar products and both being known for their signature sauces. However, it’s a hot debate when it comes to which fast food restaurant is superior to the other.
Chick-Fil-A definitely has the broader menu of the two. Chick-Fil-A has two types of chicken: grilled and breaded, with the breaded chicken also coming in a spicy version. These are further subcategorized into sandwiches, nuggets, strips and the cool wrap. That’s not even half of it. Chick-Fil-A has both waffle chips and fries, as well as several dessert options, just to even scratch the surface of Chick-Fil-A’s extensive menu. Meanwhile, Cane’s has only a select few menu options, consisting of just five different meals, one type of sauce and a handful of à la carte items.
Cane’s makes up for this in chicken quality. For comparison’s sake, I’m taking into account only the breaded chicken. Chick-Fil-A chicken is good chicken, that is true, but Cane’s edges it out. Everytime I get Cane’s, it’s always hot and fresh. Chick-Fil-A can sometimes be a gamble of hot or just lukewarm. Cane’s chicken is also more flavorful than Chick-Fil-A’s chicken.
Cane’s french fries do tend to fall short. They are small and skinny, and don’t have as much substance. Chick-Fil-A on the other hand, has waffle fries with a much larger surface area. The taste of these waffle fries is also better, as Cane’s fries are very salty and hard to enjoy.
Another one-up Cane’s has over Chick-Fil-A is the inclusion of a buttery piece of Texas toast that comes with each meal (and coleslaw with some meals) and can also be ordered as a side. Chick-Fil-A unfortunately lacks this.
Chick-Fil-A has more sides than just french fries, coleslaw and Texas toast. The mac and cheese from Chick-Fil-A keeps me coming back just about weekly, and it’s some of my favorite mac and cheese ever. Their fruit cups are also very high quality, and although I’ve never tried their kale salad, I’ve heard accounts from friends that it’s very good.
Subjectively, the most important part of the debate is the sauces. I’ve mentioned how Chick-Fil-A has eight different sauces, while Cane’s only has one. Just this number alone is enough to allow Chick-Fil-A to take the crown. But if only Cane’s sauce and Chick-Fil-A’s signature Chick-Fil-A Sauce are compared, I say that neither of them are winners. Neither sauce is worth the hype it receives. When I go to either restaurant, I don’t eat them. But, Chick-Fil-A has more diversity in their options, which is yet another win for them.
Overall, Chick-Fil-A is the clear winner. While Cane’s does have better chicken and the Texas toast is amazing, Chick-Fil-A’s menu diversity and french fry quality gives it the edge it needs to beat Cane’s. This isn’t to say, though, that both restaurants are not quality establishments, and nobody should be discouraged from trying either one.
