Emalee Martyak is a freshman. She is very involved with drama club including plays and musicals.
Out of the 114 students in the Performing Arts club, Martyak is one of them. In plays, there are always the stars of the show like the head actors and singers, but behind the scenes are the students who choose to not take part in the cast.
“I do stage crew. So I would just be like setting things up behind the stage, and kind of doing like, sound” Martyak said.
Plays are a contribution from a group, like a sport. They require everyone to be on the same page, same goal, ideas, and mindset.
“I think having a good cast is definitely important and making sure that the behind the scenes people are working with the cast to be able to like communicate different things and like make sure everything’s running smoothly. Just making sure that there’s good direction going on and just good communication in general,” Martyak said.
Martyak gives her mom credit with how much help she contributes.
“My mom has been there for me and has been open to whatever I want to join. And she’s always made it possible for me to go to all the rehearsals and practices,” Martyak said.
With all these rehearsals for plays and musicals, Martyaksays she would want to do a musical called “Hairspray.” .
“So it takes place right at the edge of segregation,” Martyak said. “And it’s kind of about how TV was working at that time. And with a local TV station, doing things and the girl that kind of had always lived up to the station.”
Everyone seems to want to be a star for the scenes but heroes like Emalee Martyak are heroes behind the scenes creating a new way of film stars.
