Freshman Lilly Stahlman has been twirling since she was very young.
“My preschool had a whole bunch of different options for sports and stuff. They had gymnastics, dance, and stuff like that, and I didn’t really like any of them. And one of the other sports options was baton. I started that and I was like, ‘Oh, I really like this’,” Stahlman said.
Stahlman has been twirling for so long but still enjoys it very much.
“There have been periods where I’m not motivated to practice, and I don’t really feel like doing it sometimes, but I’ve never not liked it,” Stahlman said.
Not only is Stahlman a twirler, she also is on the yearbook staff and has to worry about school.
“I try to get most of my yearbook work done in school and obviously have to go after school to take pictures like sports and stuff sometimes. Then I like to go home and get homework done immediately so that I can work around my twirling schedule,” Stahlman said.
Stahlman is now on a competitive twirling team
“I like it because you make relationships with people that you probably wouldn’t make. If you’re just doing individual events,” Stahlman said.
Twirling is a hard sport but can be fun and bring people together that normally would not even meet.
“I made a whole bunch of friends. I have friends from places like Texas, Virginia, just like everywhere. So I’m really happy that I got into this,” Stahlman said.
Stahlman still has more things she wants to do with twirling in the future.
”I’d like to go to Worlds and compete on that level and win, but I’d also like to be the AAHS feature twirler in the next couple years,” Stahlman said.
