On Jan. 17, the indoor track team participated in the State College invite number two. At the meet, junior Triumph Kilmartin tied the school record for high jump at five feet four inches.
This is Kilmartin’s first year doing indoor track. With high jump, long jump and 4×4, Kilmartin has gotten a PR in all of her events. Also doing outdoor track and dance, Kilmartin exels in all her sports.
“For the long jump, I got 17 feet, and I got 35.8 in the triple jump,” Kilmartin said. “My 4×4 was 68.1 and we had a PR in the 4×2 race also.”
Kilmartin’s coaches believe she has improved throughout the off-season and regular season.
“Triumph has worked extremely hard during the off-season to accomplish the goals she has set for herself,” head coach Michael Adams said. “It begins in the weight room where she has made significant improvements that have led to her performances.”
Her coaches believe she is a good role model for the team.
“Triumph has become a great leader for our team. She helps out the younger jumpers while we are away at track meets and always stays positive with them and everyone else on the team,” Adams said. “She sets a great example for everyone with her work ethic and her desire to compete at a high level.”
Kilmartin also does activities outside of school. She is a dancer. She sings on her church’s worship team and she is a role model for the kids in her church.
“Tri has helped me make good decisions because I look up to her and I want to be just like her,” freshman Marlette Hott said. “She has always been there for me and I am so grateful to have her as a friend.”
Kilmartin believes her coaches set her up for success.
“I was just really grateful that I had the opportunity to try a PR and my coaches had set me up for success,” Kilmartin said.
Kilmartin only joined indoor track to help her succeed for outdoor track.
“It was my first year of indoor track, so I was just trying to improve and push myself to better myself for outdoor track. I’ve been doing outdoor track since the spring of 2022,” Kilmartin said. “Now I think I was set up very well to succeed for outdoor track.”
Not only is Kilmartin a leader in the church, but she is also a leader for underclassmen on the track team.
“Tri has helped me improve as the season went on and with her help cheering me on, I set a PR in all of my events,” sophomore Brookelynn Weaver said. “She has helped me improve and without her, I might not be where I am right now.”
The final indoor track meet was at Penn State on Feb. 25.
