Todd Bennett, mechanical design and architecture teacher, has students design gifts for staff members within the building.
Students received a questionnaire to give to their teachers to answer questions regarding their hobbies and passions.
“The students use the answers from that questionnaire and tailor their design based on the teacher’s interests, ” Bennett said.
The projects are small, wooden cutouts designed to cater to the chosen staffer’s hobbies.
Sophomore Codey Burns chose English teacher Robert Wynn.
“He was very helpful to me last school year, and he’s a teacher I really look up to,” Burns said.
Burns had Wynn fill out the questionnaire with specific interests which included football, baseball, lifting and rock music.
“I made a meme. It’s something that says ‘da bears’ and it’s an SNL skit playing off of the football team,” Burns said.
Senior Matthew Pitts created a project for special education teacher Morgan Anderson.
“I made a cut out of somebody running with a breast cancer awareness shirt. It makes me feel caring and like I’m repaying her,” Pitts said.
The students use the program AutoCAD to design their projects online first, before being able to make the wood cutouts. Once they’re finished the students get to hand them to their teachers personally as a gift.
“It makes me feel thoughtful and caring towards somebody who gives me a lot, so it’s kind of like me giving back,” Burns said.
