On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, anticipated to occur between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and may last anywhere from four to five minutes. Due to the timing of the eclipse, the AASD Board of Directors approved an adjustment to the school calendar at a recent meeting to include an early dismissal for students on Monday, April 8, 2024.
“We understand the potential inconvenience this may cause families. However, as the timing of the solar eclipse coincides with student dismissal, the decision for an early dismissal was made in the best interest of the health and safety of our students, bus drivers and staff,” Superintendent Brad Hatch said in an email sent on Tuesday, March 19.
Students will be provided lunch on Monday, April 8 and will be dismissed according to the following schedule:
11:15 AM – Learning Express Preschool AM and Full Day Sessions
11:45 AM – Stevens Building Programs
12:00 PM – AAHS, AAJHS, Baker Elementary, McAuliffe Heights Program
1:15 PM – Ebner Elementary, Juniata Elementary, Juniata Gap Elementary, Logan Elementary, Penn Lincoln Elementary, Pleasant Valley Elementary
Athletic practices, contests and after-school activities will be adjusted accordingly by coaches. Coaches will notify students as to those changes when they are finalized.
