The American Legion is announcing several Scholarship Opportunities for students in grades 9 through 12, as well as an essay contest with cash prizes. The essay is entitled: “Is the American Dream Still Relevant Today?” and must be submitted by January 8. There is a separate opportunity through their High School Oratorical Scholarship Program where the winner is awarded a $7,500 Scholarship in this constitutional speech contest with an application deadline of December 1. If these opportunities are not a good fit for you, the American Legion has also provided information about 4 additional scholarship and 2-week long camps with the possibility to earn more scholarship money. Attention Seniors: A representative from Juniata College will be here during lunches on Monday, October 28. Please stop by during your lunch period to ask questions and see what they have to offer.
Attention Juniors and Seniors: It is time to start gathering your Turkey Bowl Teams. This year’s Turkey Bowl is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26. The form for team sign-ups will go out on Thursday, October 31st at 7:40 a.m. The cost is $100 per team and is not required until Monday, November 25. The first 12 teams will be selected to participate as long as all team qualifications are met. Additional teams will be placed on a standby list in the event another team is disqualified or drops out. All Turkey Bowl Teams must consist of a minimum of 7 female players and a maximum of 3 male players (10 players max). Each team may have up to 3 coaches. All team members must be juniors or seniors in good academic standing, have no current disciplinary issues, have good attendance, and must have NO FINES! Only one person should complete the team form. Each team member’s first and last name, grade level, and ID number are required – so start gathering that information!
Attention Juniors and Seniors who sold Krispy Kreme Doughnuts: All doughnut orders will be delivered on Tuesday, October 29th. Doughnuts will not arrive until the end of the school day, so please be patient and arrange for pick-up that does not disrupt dismissal. All orders must be picked up no later than 5 p.m. or they will be available in B120 the following morning. Pick-up will take place in the main office lobby area.
Attention 9th graders: Are you high-achieving with a dream of attending post-secondary education? Do you maintain good attendance? Would you be in the first generation of your family to attend college? Are you interested in a mentor to help guide you through high school and onto the path of college? Are you interested in the possibility of up to $7500 of financial assistance for some of those college-related expenses? If so, stop outside of B120 and pick up an application today. We had many picked up last time, but very few returned. If you have already completed an application, you DO NOT need to submit another one. Applications are due by the end of the day on Friday, November 8.
