Q: How did you get interested in soccer in the first place?
A: “I just always wanted to play soccer, but for the longest time, I was in basketball. I hated it. So that’s really just how it started.”
Q: How long have you been playing soccer since then?
A: “Ten years.”
Q: Do you have a particular favorite year playing soccer?
A: “I think last year, my freshman year, would probably be my favorite year because the seniors were so welcoming and the coaches were all nice, and everyone was just nice.”
Q: How would you describe your life playing soccer all year?
A: “It gets really hard during track season, especially indoor track, because I play on two soccer teams. It’s two soccer teams plus track so it’s like, busy, busy.”
Q: How do you try to keep up on track, when you play two different leagues?
A: “I try to prioritize track during the season because I play soccer all year round, and games are usually on the weekends.”
Q: Do you ever struggle between soccer and other activities?
A: “I have knee problems, and also with school, there’s just so much going on, so doing homework and just keeping my body able to play is a struggle.”
How many times have you been injured?
A: “I was injured really badly a few years ago at a beach tournament because I collided with the goal, and it messed up my knee. But I have knee problems in both knees. So it’s just all year round knee problems.”
Q: Do you keep up with your work?
A: “I do try to get things in before they’re turned in. I usually, if we have an away game when we’re leaving early, I try to get all my work done. I, before we leave school, whatever paperwork that I can do, do it on the bus. So I do all my electronic stuff in school and then on my paper.
Q: What do you think is the, outside of making up assignments for school, the hardest part of soccer?
A: “The schedule is really hard and usually we have three games a week, plus Saturday. That’s four games. So it’s just a lot of soccer. So it’s hard to start hating, but whenever I do get like that, I don’t want to go to practice or anything.I love this sport and I want to play, so you have to go to practice.”
Q: Do you ever find struggles in between?
A: “A big struggle I have is late practices. We had practice at 7:30, and I went to bed at 8:30. so I literally had like an hour to eat, shower and do the rest of my homework because my brother had a football game. So keeping up with all of it is really hard.”
Q: Did you ever consider a different sport before soccer?
A: “Nope. Tried basketball here. And thought of softball. Whenever my mom told me about track, I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, I should do that. It would help me keep in shape for soccer’ and they just kind of go together because you run in soccer.”
