Q: What made you interested in joining the Mountain Echo/Horseshoe?
A: “I started doing Horseshoe and Mountain Echo because I’ve always had a passion for photo taking and story writing. I always knew about the yearbook and news writing staff since my sixth grade year in junior high, but I was never really one to partake in clubs or electives that I hadn’t taken before so I stayed to what I knew. During scheduling my eighth grade year, I took an interest in the way they were explaining the class. So I signed up and took Intro to Pub my freshman year.”
Q:How long have you been on the Mountain Echo/Horseshoe staff?
A: “This is my first year on both staffs, and I can definitely see myself doing it the rest of my high school career.”
Q: What do you most enjoy about being on staff?
A: “There are a lot of benefits to being in yearbook and newspaper, but to me personally it is the relationships and bonds that you get with the other staffers. You might go into the room on the first day and not know anyone in there, but after a few days of being around each other and doing work for the book or the website you become close and have a sense of reliability with one another. If I had not joined the staff I probably wouldn’t be friends with any of the people I am friends with now.”
Q: How do you look forward to using the skills you’ve learned on staff in future endeavors?
A: “I look forward to using the skills I’ve learned in college doing photography or writing, as it has always been a passion of mine.”
Q: Do you have any advice for incoming staff members?
A: “Don’t stress yourself out, it might be a lot of work but in the end it’s all worth it to see the progress and the final production of the book and the stories we write. Always ask for help, everyone on staff has been where you are at one point and they would be more than happy to help you with your page in the book or even fixing something in your story.”
Q: What other activities, sports, clubs, etc are you involved in in-school?
A: “Within school other than Mountain Echo and Horseshoe, I participate in Black Student Union and drama. I joined both of them my freshman year and it was definitely a lot to try and balance out at once, but once I got the hang of it, I definitely enjoyed doing them more.”
Q: What plans do you have for after high school?
A: “I plan to go to college after high school. I’m not sure where I want to go just yet, but I have time to figure that out.”
Q: What activities do you enjoy outside of school?
A: “Outside of school I spend a lot of time drawing and reading.”
Q: What career/careers are you interested in?
A: “I plan to take a career in photography or writing. I’m only in my sophomore year so I have time to further think about my career in case I take an interest in something new.”
Q: Is there anybody who has inspired you to be at the place you are in your life?
A: “I don’t think that there’s anyone who inspired me to do what I do. I’ve just always been the one to take the photos rather than being in them.”
