The boys’ and girls’ swim team will compete in their first meet of the season on Dec. 6 at 5:00 p.m. in the field house. The team will compete against Richland and Cambria Heights. This season there are 16 boys and 22 girls on the team. The swim team brought on a new coaching staff, specifically new head coach Brian Kephart.
“The coaching staff is very excited and somewhat nervous about our first meet,” Kephart said. “The meet is very early in the season and we haven’t had as much time to prepare and train the swimmers as we wish we had. But we are sure everyone will give their maximum effort anyway. We are anxious to get real times on the books for our swimmers in a meet situation. I think we will have a lot of swimmers surprise themselves with how well they can do.”
The team will swim the 200 yard medley relay, 200 yard freestyle, 200 yard individual medley, 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard butterfly, 100 yard freestyle, 500 yard freestyle, 200 yard freestyle relay, 100 yard backstroke, 100 yard breaststroke and the 400 yard freestyle relay. There will be 12 total meets, the home ones on Dec. 6, Dec. 18, Jan. 8, Jan. 10, Jan. 13 and Jan. 27.
