On Friday, Jan. 24, M. Eyer scored 1,000 points for her entire basketball career.
“My sophomore and junior year, I started scoring more, and I realized that I had a chance of getting to [1,000 points],” Eyer said. “Whenever I started getting closer during my senior year, it was really exciting.”
She has played basketball all throughout high school and has had this goal since freshman year.
During her journey, M. Eyer has faced some setbacks, but progressively worked at practice and in the gym.
“My biggest setbacks were games where I wasn’t scoring efficiently and couldn’t make any shots,” M. Eyer said. “I would go to the gym and make sure I was working all the time. My biggest influence is my dad because he really pushes me to get better and he has helped me set goals for myself.”
The 1,000 point accomplishment took place during the Jan. 24 alumni game celebrating 1,000 wins.
“I knew I was around two points away,” M. Eyer said. “My little sister gave me an assist, so it was a really good feeling and the support I had was really great.”
Sophomore Raylin Eyer, M. Eyer’s sister plays basketball for the high school.
“I feel proud of her because it’s such a big accomplishment,” R. Eyer said. “I feel like it means a lot to her because she’s worked so hard for it. I have a good role model to look up to.”
The next goal for their season is to win the state championship.
Though she will be graduating in the spring, Eyer hopes that the team will maintain the same principles that she has throughout her career.
“I would say it’s important to have a positive attitude no matter what because you’re going to have setbacks,” Eyer said. “Just keep working hard and it will pay off.”
She is attending Shippensburg University in the fall, and plans to continue her basketball career there.
