“Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch” written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman started as a book, and got turned into a show that’s available to watch on Amazon Prime.
The book and show are almost exactly the same, but there are parts the viewer would not even realize if they had not read the book before watching the show, or even the other way around. The movie is better with the details, especially with displaying emotions.
In the book, Pratchett and Gaiman did a great job of conveying emotions through words, without seeing the character’s face, the reader could read emotions and imagine the characters pain, joy, sorrow and other emotions experienced in the book and show.
However, in the show, the viewer can hear the tone of the voices and the emotions displayed on the character’s faces. The reader can even feel the atmosphere around them with their eyes, ears and almost every sense. The show is very verbally descriptive especially with the narrator, the narrating being a very important part to the show and book at the same time.
The show has about nine thirty minute episodes and two seasons, a third coming out in late 2025 or early 2026. But there is definitely a lot crammed full into the episodes that makes the watcher excited to see the next episode. Or nervous just depending on the person and the episode. The episodes are like that because there wasn’t enough money to make it into a movie at the time. That’s good for readers who don’t have enough time to sit through a whole movie though.
Some of the characters are either completely changed, not changed at all or just not in the show from the book at all. Some actions were changed, as well as personality changes to some characters. Season one had one actor playing a character and then season two there was a whole different actor, but the second person was more fit for the role in the end.
The authors spent a lot of time on the book. Although Gaiman spent more time working on the show due to Pratchett’s passing, they both ultimately made contributions. However, Gaiman refused to work on the show without Pratchett, until he was encouraged to try again. The book and movie are both great to watch or read, and they make more sense if the viewers watched the show or read the book, and they are great if you want to pass the time.
