‘’Tuesdays with Morrie’’ is a book that teaches one how to never take advantage of anything. It teaches people how to love and not hold anything against anyone.
The main characters in the book are Mitch and Morrie. Morrie used to be Mitch’s professor back in college with a promise to keep in touch with him, but situations happened along the way.
Morrie talks about how to love, heal, trust and forgive:“You see, you closed your eyes. That was the difference. Sometimes you cannot believe what you see, you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too–even when you’re in the dark. Even when you’re falling,” Morrie said.
Every Tuesday, he and Mitch pick a topic to discuss that happens in life or is picked from personal experience: “So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are important. This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning,” Morrie said.
Morrie was diagnosed with ALS a few years after Mitch graduated from college. ALS is a fatal type of motor neuron disease, causing progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain.
‘’Tuesdays with Morrie” is very similar to the movie ‘’Good Will Hunting.’’ A grown man teaching a younger man lessons about life, while the only difference is that Morrie was sick and was spending his last few weeks teaching Mitch the good about life: “ Death ends a life, not a relationship,” Morrie said.
“Tuesdays with Morrie” is a fascinating book with many life lessons in it. It could teach many people about life and educate them about their own.
