The generosity of AAHS students was on full display yesterday, as they not
only gave blood, but also donated a record $271.00 to the Altoona Food Bank
during yesterday’s Elite Eight action. That brings our Tournament total to
nearly $500.00 to help those in need, and also teaches students real world
skillz that money does sway elections. So which teacher won due to the
financial backing of their students? Let’s find out!
Nearly 1,200 students voted in the Elite Eight. With a record 759 votes,
Mrs. Ying’s popularity continues to peak, as she eliminated top dawg
Mr. McKinney to win the El Dorado Region. She will face Fifth Ward Champ
and fellow 2-seed Mr. Saboe and McKinley the dog, an undefeated tag team if
there ever was one.
The Dutch Hill result shocked the student body. Top seed Mrs. McAleer clung
to a 37-vote lead against 6-seed Mr. Bennett, but Bennett’s backers donated
$61.00 to will the beloved Tech Ed teacher into the Final Four.
6-seed Mr. Harber was the choice of the people after two weeks of amazing
promos, videos, flyers, and Captain America cameos. But despite a record
$65.00 donated by his students, 5-seed Mr. D’Angelo held on to win the
Juniata Region. Experts wonder what D’Angelo’s has promised to his
students if he wins it all.
Checking the Bracket Challenge scoreboard, Senior Alana Guerin’s 1-point
lead is tenuous, and she’s lost her champion. Freshman Peyton Espigh is only
1 point behind, and still has D’Angelo picked to win it all. Tied down in 10th
place, both sophomore Emmalee Martyak and senior Gavin Conahye are
counting on a late surge to 1st with a Mr. Saboe championship.
Reminder: Due to the generosity of Mr. Neely, all classes of the March
Madness Teacher Champion will receive special donut breakfasts in the
morning, or pizza lunches in the afternoon. Don’t let your favorite teacher
lose out this close to the finish line. Vote early today, and often at lunch.
