Mary Stoltz is a distance runner who recently committed to Shippensburg after decommitting to Saint Franciswhen they changed their division.. Stoltz is a varsity runner on both the track team and cross country team.
Stoltz will be continuing her track and cross country career at Shippensburg where she will study to become a special education teacher. Her original plan was to go to saint francis and she says she was excited. After hearing the change of going into division three, her mind was changed. She has to look at many other colleges and ultimately make a last minute decision, and she explains how it was tough. Her plans are to continue running the 800 and eventually throughout her years get into one of the relay teams she is competing in in her highschool years.
“I committed to Saint Francis in October of 2024 and was planning on going there until in March I got the news they were changing from D1 to D3 after me being there for one year,” Stoltz said.” I decided it was best for me to decommit which was a hard decision. But with my teammates’ support, coaches, and family I decided to recommit to Shippensburg University.”
Stoltz’s teammates believe she is a dedicated and kind person.
“Her dedication on and off the track is inspiring, watching her push through every challenge motivates the whole team to give their best,” sophomore Brianna Adams said.
“Mary as a person and teammate is a great inspiration, she pushes through obstacles with a smile on her face. She never gives up and is always a sweet and genuine person,” junior Emerson Snare said.
Stoltz holds the four by 400 meter relay record at Mansion Park with her team of junior Brookelyn Weaver, senior Alannah Irwin, and now graduated Hailey Kravetz.
The 800-meter record for indoor track is held by Stoltz with a time of 2:18.61, which she set at a Penn State invitational. This year during indoor track season, she also placed seventh in the state with her team of Weaver, Adams and Ashlyn Noce for the distance medley relay.
Mary has always maintained straight A’s throughout all her schooling, along with balancing track and cross country. She helps with the special education classrooms for over half of the day during school. She enjoys working with them and plans to continue this as her future career.
