The boys’ baseball team played against State College on Thursday, April 17 at Mansion Park.
Senior Gavin Albright was the starting pitcher for the game against State College.
“Gavin is a great pitcher who sequences a four seam fastball, a curveball and a circle change up,” Conner Pike said.
The team practiced throughout the week to prepare for the game.
“We prepared by doing our normal warmup routine and our main focus going into the game was to beat our rivals state college,” said Ryan McConnell.
Aaron Sherman had a ground ball with a throw during the fourth inning.
“Some of our highlights of the game were Albright hitting great the whole game, and Tanner Stroup’s sliding catch in center field,” Pike said.
The batting order is made to get hits and runs in the most efficient way possible.
In the sixth inning of the game they were up by two then State College got five runs. Albright got two hits during the game.
“Our biggest challenge of the game was adjusting to hitting when the pitcher was throwing off-speeds,”Said McConnell.
The final score of the game was a loss 9-8.
“Even though we didn’t win, we had some great plays, hits, catches and maintained a positive attitude the whole time,” Pike said.
The team is coached by Head Coach Tom Smith and Assistant Coach Jason Jones.
“We are just trying to get better each game, and it was tough to lose against your rival in State College. We just have to prepare to play them in the district playoffs and find a way to be a little bit better and see more improvement,” Smith said.
