Seventeen-year old Xavier Midder scored and achieved a new record at Mansion during a track meet held last year. This record put Midder on the record board at Mansion, where his father’s name was also placed during his time on the high school track team.
“It was probably just another stepping stone because as a track athlete I know that time wasn’t that good compared to other people’s times, but it’s just a work in progress,” Midder said. “Definitely achieved something pretty good in my life. I never thought I’d be running track and field. I never thought I’d be here.”
He previously practiced and worked to try and get a better record. Over the years, Midder advanced from qualifying with a low time to qualifying with a very high time in hurdles for four years.
Midder joined track in 2021 when he was a freshman, and he has worked hard ever since.
Coach Mike Adams was very proud after seeing Xavier beat a record, and he feels that Midder has a long road ahead of him.
“Oh, it was a great race. It was amazing. You know, amazing time. I was very excited about it,” Coach Adam said. “I bring it to the pitch. I would say that he’s on a route to achieve a lot of great things in his life as long as he continues to work hard and have a good attitude.”
Achieving his record, Midder puts his mind in a different and a more positive place when he’s practicing and working out.
“To be honest, this year, it’s changed over time, but this year as I matured more, it’s more of running your own race,” Midder said.
Coach Adams was very pleased with Midder’s participation and his leadership in the sport. Adams was glad to coach and help Xavier, and he thinks Midder is very helpful.
“Xavier is a high caliber athlete, and he’s a state caliber athlete. He provides a lot of points, and he’s a very good leader for the young kids,” Coach Adam said.
Midder has so far achieved something very important to him, and he wishes to continue this. Midder gave some good words of wisdom for the other upcoming hurdlers.
“I’d probably say trust the process. Because, you’ll never know if you will be good because, I never thought I’d be as good as myself. I just listen to the coach at all times,” Midder said.
