A couple years ago, the school had an unofficial pickleball club. Unfortunately, it was disbanded when Kelly Sipes left the school. Since her departure, the school has not continued the club.
At first pickleball might just look like tennis, but they have some differences from each other. Instead of rackets and tennis balls, pickleball uses paddles and wiffle balls. Pickleball also requires an underhand serve and you need to serve towards the player diagonal to you when playing doubles. Pickleball has a section of the court called the “kitchen” where players are not allowed to volley. Pickleball also has a smaller court size than tennis, which means it doesn’t put as much strain on your body.
Pickleball is also a sport regularly played in physical education class, so students would be familiar with it. Other physical education sports also have clubs and some, like volleyball, even have official school teams, so why should pickleball be excluded from the list?
Pickleball is much more accessible than tennis due to the smaller court size, so more students might be interested in playing it than tennis. If enough people express interest in the sport, then there should be a club for them to enjoy the sport and meet people with similar interests through it.
Pickleball club is accessible, students have shown interest in the sport and we’ve already had one before.
