Teens talk about how their outfits affect their days

For some teenages, appearance can affect moods for the entire day.
Some students may plan and be excited to wear an outfit for a while, but once the time comes to wear it, they don’t like it as much as they thought they would. They may even feel like all eyes are on them.
“I think everyone has days like that, where you’re excited for an outfit and then you don’t love it,” junior Keira Mayhue said.
The opposite may be true, a student could throw on some clothes in a hurry and feel very confident in them, even if they didn’t think they would. They may find a new outfit combination and really enjoy how it looks and feels.
“Sometimes you can just throw on an outfit and feel super confident in it. You may have never even known you liked those clothes until that moment,” Mayhue said.
“Most kids who wear clothes depending on how they feel dress differently almost everyday. Some students could wake up wanting to impress everyone they see, others may wake up wanting to dress the complete opposite,” junior Elaina Petta said.
Some days students’ moods could be dependent on their outfit or how they look that day.
“Sometimes a person may not be feeling too confident, then they get a compliment and their mood completely changes. Or a student may be feeling really good and wear an outfit they like and they may act and feel more outgoing and confident then they would have if they didn’t dress up nice. When I dress down it’s usually because I’m exhausted or not having the best morning,” Petta said.
Some students like to mix it up. They may dress up for some days of the week and dress down or comfortably the other days of the week. There are even some students who like to dress up on the first few days of the week, and dress comfortably on the last few days.
“For me, dressing comfy for school has always been another way to get excited for the weekend. A lot of the time when I do dress comfy, it’s on a friday or the last day of the week,” Mayhue said. “It just kind of gets me ready for the weekend and remembering that we got through another week of school.”
Some students reward themselves with a comfy day like Mayhue does, others don’t mind and just dress how they want when they want. No matter the day, an outfit can have an effect on some people. Some students look forward to dressing up or dressing down every day.
“When I don’t dress comfy for school and decide to dress up for school I feel a little bit more productive. Especially on a Monday, dressing up helps me to feel ready for the week ahead,” Mayhue said.
Some students really like to plan their outfits, they may enjoy going clothes shopping with friends. Or they may enjoy picking and having a different outfit to wear everyday.
“Thrifting, going through my family’s old clothing, finding basic pieces that can be layered and styled in multiple outfits like turtlenecks and sweaters. Accessorizing is also important and making or thrifting old jewelry can change the entire look of an outfit,” junior Bella Davis said.
