In 2020, the TikTok app increased its U.S. users base by 85.3 percent compared to the previous year. It launched in 2016, and it’s main concept was to build an app that people could use to express themselves.

“I think TikTok has its benefits, and some things they could change. You have to be very lucky in order to be seen on TikTok with your talent,” math teacher Caleb Marasco said.

Marasco joined TikTok two years ago and has been making singing videos on the app ever since. His username is calebmarsmusic.

“Lately, I have been singing and actually writing my own music as well. It’s my favorite hobby outside of teaching. I love expressing myself,” Marasco said.

Junior Anthony Leap discussed how he feels about his Marasco’s Tik tok account.

“Mr. Marasco is always himself and never hides his personality from anyone. Sometimes he even sings in class. I feel like his TikTok’s are very funny, and it helps him gain his youth back,” Leap said.

Marasco’s favorite genre of music is country. Artists that he enjoys include: Darius Rucker, Luke Combs, Rodney Atkins and Andy Grammer.

“Country music relaxes me. I also feel like I can relate to it a lot more than other music,” Marasco said.

Marasco graduated from Altoona  in 2016. He performed in a number of plays including ‘Adia’ in 2015 and ‘Hairspray’ in 2016 (his senior year).

“In the play ‘Adia’, I played Radames, and in ‘Hairspray’, I played Link,” Marasco said.

Marsasco has been singing since elementary school where he participated in County Chorus. He stopped, until he picked it back up in ninth grade when he performed in the play’ Into The Woods’.

“I started singing a long time ago because of Jesse McCartney. I loved his music and was getting his CD’s and posters. I truly loved his music and wanted to be just like him for some unknown reason. Loved the look and started truly focusing on my voice,” Marasco said.

Marasco has also been teaching himself how to play guitar and has learned how to play the saxophone.

“I am actually trying to perform this summer. I will be hopefully holding a concert to perform covers of a bunch of artists. The list of songs I can play is not long, but let me tell you, I am impressing myself,” Marasco said.

Marasco is hoping to perform live this summer. According to Marasco, he isn’t too stressed. Wherever it goes, he states he will be happy either way.
