Music can help to relieve stress
March 28, 2022
Many people all over the world put their headphones on and listen to music as part of their daily routine. As those who create music are able to express themselves, those who listen are able to destress themselves from what they may be experiencing in their lives.
As people struggle with anxiety and stress over certain elements of life, music is a source that could totally change how a person is feeling. According to Michigan State University, music is therapeutic to relieve stress, but it also helps people’s emotional well-being.
Without a doubt, everyday I put on my headphones and listen to music before school, before work or any event I feel stressed or nervous about. Doing this helps me to feel more relaxed and less focused on what I am worrying about in my life. Personally, I enjoy all types of music, such as pop, country, rap, rock and pretty much anything that is upbeat and happy.
There are millions of songs that artists have created where some are happy, some are sad, some express anger and other emotions that we all feel as humans. Any song of any genre can do something for our souls and can play a factor in the way we express our emotions. As I have been exposed to different types of music, I have been able to broaden what I listen to, which causes me to experience better days and handle stress.
There are some mornings where I feel like not getting up because I have a lot of things on my mind, so when I listen to music while I get ready, it allows me to feel like I am somewhere else where I don’t have to worry. When I am listening to music, I am concentrating on the words as well as the beat and not what I have going on in my day.
Even though I do not create music, it is a huge part of my life for what it allows me to accomplish and feel. As someone who struggles with anxiety everyday about everything in my life, music feels like an escape where I don’t have to be worried about what is next, instead I just think about what I am listening to and fall in love with the words.
The people at CBS Minnesota conducted a study where they were able to find that 75 percent of people felt a reduction in stress when they were able to listen to their favorite songs. This information can prove to others who are trying to find ways to deal with stress that music can help and be something beneficial for their health.
Having my own experiences and talking to others, I know that many students and people in general have a difficult time staying calm when they are faced with stress, which causes them to have trouble functioning during the day. Even though there are other ways to cope with stress, music is a tool that lots of people have access to and is something that can be easily done.
