Swim season to begin in December

As fall sports come to an end, winter sports begin. Swim training started Oct. 3 and runs after school until 5 p.m. Practices are three days a week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

The first swim meet starts Dec. 3, and senior Gwyn Fox is excited for her last first swim meet.

“This is one of the best seasons. Both the girls’ and the boys’ teams have a good chance of winning the banner,” Fox said.

Fox swims with her brother and other family members and likes the support they give her.

“I think it’s a lot of fun because we are all in the same events, so it makes us competitive with each other,” Fox said.

As former swimmers come back for the season, there are also new incoming swimmers. Senior Alex Drumm is an incoming swimmer, and has taken time to prepare for his first year of swimming.

“I’ve been working with Austin Parker to get myself more familiar with swimming,” Drumm said.

With a new season of a sport come new goals for teammates. Senior Kaylnn Manley, who has been swimming for three years, has made goals for herself.

“I want to qualify for Districts again and medal in my events. I also want to beat the school record in the 200 medley relay,” Manley said.

Last season the team had qualifiers for the PIAA Districts including sophomores Trever Wilson and Charlie Kephart, junior Alexis Fraundorfer and seniors Gwyn Fox, Austin Parker, Kaylynn Manley, JJ Steinbugl, Patryck Webster and Emma Fraundorfer.

Nanette Cummings, the swimming coach, uses the preseason to prepare.

“I really haven’t seen the entire team as of yet because fall sports haven’t finished. We have quite a few new swimmers this year, so this preseason is a good time to work with them and get them prepared for when the entire team and season starts,”  Cummings said.
