Kim Shope

Q: How long did you work at AAHS?

A: “This is my thirty sixth year here.”

Q: What was your role at AAHS?

A: “I’ve been a regular classroom teacher, and I’ve been Department Chair for social studies. For several years, I served as the attendance office supervising teacher and then for the last several years I’ve been handling the community service classes. I’ve done a lot of extracurricular activities; currently I’m the student council adviser, but I’ve also been in charge of Prom, Afterglo and Mock Trial.”

Q: If you had to describe your years at Altoona in one or two words, what would it be?

A: “Pleasurable.”

Q: What is your favorite memory from Altoona?

A: “I think one of my favorite memories is having two children graduate from here. The commencement services are always very memorable to me.”

Q: What made you decide to take the path of education?

A: “I always wanted to be a teacher when I was a little girl. I guess I like to tell people what to do too. But it’s something I have always gravitated towards, and it worked out.”

Q: What do you plan to do after retiring?

A: “I’ll probably pick up a part time job, spend a bit more time with my extended family and maybe get back to some of my hobbies.”

Q: What will you miss most about working here?

A: “I’ll miss interacting with the students and the staff.”

Q: What have you learned from the students at Altoona?

A: “I learned there are a lot of bright students with a lot of energy who really put their minds to it and can accomplish a lot of things. I have always been impressed to see some of the things students can do.”
