In recent weeks, Arby’s has been receiving a wave of criticism online for some of their menu items looking unappealing and generally unappetising. However, I wanted to find out if the hate was overblown or if Arby’s was really as bad as everyone says it is.
On May 11, I decided to take a trip to Arby’s with my fellow reporters Maxwell Coon and Diego Gil. We all got different menu items with some to share between ourselves, but we ended up spending a little over $50 on all of our food. We decided to try the mozzarella sticks and potato cakes first. They were good but overall pretty average for fast food standards, it’s hard to mess up either of them.
We then went on to try our individual items that we ordered. I was able to try the jamocha shake, the crispy chicken sandwich and the classic roast beef. The jamocha shake was actually really good, it had a very different flavor compared to any shake I’ve had before . The crispy chicken sandwich was just okay, I didn’t really like it that much, but there’s nothing in particular that I can point out about it. The classic roast beef was the item I looked forward to trying the least. Appearance wise it was by far the worst of all of them, but in terms of taste it was actually pretty good.
Gil did not think that his pulled pork sandwich looked very appetizing. When he tried it he thought that it wasn’t as bad as it looked but there was also no flavor.
Coon really enjoyed the white cheddar mac and cheese, and gave it a 7/10 rating. However, the ham and cheese sandwich was not received as positively, the ratio of ham and cheese was drastically in favor of the cheese and it was given a 3/10.
After trying it, I can confidently say that Arby’s isn’t as bad as everyone says it is. However, it isn’t that great either compared to other fast food restaurants. The food is overall very average and this would not be my first choice for fast food, but I wouldn’t complain if I had to eat here again.
