Seniors

On Oct. 12 and 13, seniors voted for their class officers. The results of this election were announced on Oct. 15. The winners included Jack Hatch as president, Adalynn Cherry as vice president, Brooklynn Rupert as secretary and Anna Batrus as treasurer.

Hatch has many roles being class president.

“I basically come up with ideas for any fundraisers, ideas for spirit week, and the whole class committee helps me by adding onto the ideas and making posters,” Hatch said.

Hatch, who also won president his junior year, didn’t think he would win this year. He also has many goals for the seniors.

“I honestly didn’t think that I would win, but I had some really good ideas, and I knew I would work hard to make sure these ideas would actually happen. I want to run at least two fundraisers this year. We were supposed to do one for the UMDF [Mitochondrial Disease Education and Research] until we had to go virtual due to COVID-19. I would also like to do one for the Brian Morden Foundation,” Hatch said.

Cherry, along with being a part of several clubs including Patriotic Student Alliance, Girls League, National Honors Society and student council, won the vote for vice president.

“My role as vice president is to help Jack as president and to add input on some of his ideas. We have already been working collaboratively and coming up with some ideas that we can hopefully discuss and carry out when we return back to school,” Cherry said.

Cherry won class president her sophomore year, but did not run her junior year.

“I decided to run for vice president this year because I wanted to have an impact on our senior class. I loved what Jack did as president last year, and I wanted to be able to have a part of that this year. I want to get the most out of my high school experience, and I want to help others do the same. I thought that running would give me the opportunity to do so,” Cherry said.

Cherry plans on making this school year as memorable as possible.

“Many things are different, and many things are restricted; however, I truly believe we can find the positives in the situation and find ways to make senior year enjoyable. Right now it is hard to set specific goals, but I think once we return back to school we will have a better understanding of what we can do this year,” Cherry said.

Rupert ran for secretary because she wants to make her senior year more cherished.

“I ran because I hope to make this senior year more fun during these dark times. This year we need to be smart and safe, but I think I can come up with some ideas to make this year more memorable. I think we have such an amazing senior class who can do anything they put their minds to, and I want to help make this year successful with them,” Rupert said.

Rupert loves being involved with the school and community, which is why she ran for secretary.

“I have done a lot of community service with young athletes, and it’s one of the best feelings when they grow up and remember you. As secretary I get to continue this! I get to be involved with the fun and success of the senior class because I do believe we are a special group. We are already talking about planning events for a fundraiser which could be a huge success,” Rupert said.

Class treasurer helps with finances and money tasks for the committee. Batrus ran for treasurer because she likes working with numbers and has always enjoyed math.

“For the senior class this year, I definitely hope to get and keep us all together, and have as many events as possible. Even though COVID is around, I want to have things to do where the senior class can have fun and remember their senior year as a happy time. I hope we can still get really good things to happen this year and that we can all bond with each other and run our finances well to make things happen,” Batrus said.
