The AAHS Fine Arts program rewards the students with a trip to Disney on April 27. There have been a few bumps in the road, but now everything is sorted out.

Band Director Larry Detwiler makes sure all the plans work out.

“So the students have to do their own fundraising. We do fundraisers, they can work in the concession stands, and they could pay part of it on their own,”  Detwiler said.

Due to COVID-19 plans have changed.

“We’ve been going to Myrtle Beach for a number of years and then regretfully it wasn’t an option when we started planning this trip,” Detwiler said.

Even though some students won’t get to go to Disney again it won’t be all play.

“Yes, Yes It is a reward for all their hard work and things they’ve been doing, but we are still going to be working while we are there,” Detwiler said.

The biggest reward will be for Detwiler.

“The parade, when the marching band marches…We are hoping it to be Main Street by Magic Kingdom. If it comes to be that, that would be an absolute highlight of my career,” Detilwer said.

Even while being enthusiastic about the trip Detwiler is doing everything he can do to make sure the students are safe.

“My concern is taking every step we can to ensure that they stay healthy right before, during, and after the trip,” Detwiler said.

Even though there is excitement about the students performing it’s up in the air about going again.

“We don’t know. This is the first one we’ve done in a long time. We’ll see how it turns out. It’s very likely it could stay,” Detwiler said.

As the date gets closer and closer the students and staff get more and more excited.
