Announcements for 9/13/2023

A reminder to all students: You MUST wear your lanyard around your neck all
day, every day. ALSO, ear buds are NEVER permitted to be worn and cell phones
MUST be in lockers.

 

Hey AAHS! The Maniacs are sponsoring two dress up themes a month, called Friday
Fundays, every 2 nd and 4 th Friday. This Friday’s theme is to wear PURPLE in honor of
suicide awareness month. Show your support of this important cause as well as your
pride in AAHS by joining in to wear purple this Friday! One student will be randomly
selected to receive a gift card for participating!

 

Attention Student Council: There will be a meeting this Thursday, 9/14, at 7AM in
the auditorium. Please enter the school through the main office lobby.

 

Attention FBLA members and students interested in joining FBLA. If you missed
the first meeting, it’s not too late to join. The second FBLA meeting of the year will be
held in Mr. King’s room, B126, this Thursday, September 14 th at 2:45. All current and
perspective members are needed in attendance. Club officers and fundraising are the
main topics.

 

Astronomy Club members, don’t forget to turn in your signed permission slips for our
free Fort Roberdeau Haunted Trail planning trip, observatory night, and cookout to be
held on Thursday, September 21 st . There will be no meeting this week, so think about
Astronomy really hard to make up for it. See you next week!

 

Games Club and Computer Club will have their first meeting of the year in room
B109 on Friday, September 15 th , after school until 4:30 PM. If you are interested,
please join the Google Classroom with code my6lemb or just show up!

 

Any student wishing to join the Friends of Rachel club must join by today. The code to

Attention Students: Do you need help with your math homework? Or, someone to
help with a science or social studies assignment? If so, beginning on Monday,
September 18 th , the members of the National Honor Society will be offering FREE
after-school peer tutoring each week, Monday through Thursday, from 2:45 – 3:45 in
the AAHS library. You do not need to sign up or pre-register. This is drop-in style
tutoring. Please make sure to bring all materials necessary to help with specific
assignments including notes, books, and calculators. Please remember that this is not
a “hang-out”. Only students seeking academic tutoring are permitted.

 

Attention Seniors with aspirations of attending college…an admissions counselor from
IUP will be here during lunch periods today to answer any questions you may have about
the college.  Please stop by the table and say hello!

 

Do you like helping people while having fun? If you do, Key Club is for you! First
meeting is Monday, September 18 th at 2:45 PM in Room A210. Bring a friend!

Attention all students interested in joining Youth and Government Club: We will
have an informational meeting after school on Thursday, September 14 th in
Mr. Blough’s room, B320. We’ll go over plans for the year and – of course – talk some
politics! See Mr. Blough if you’re interested in joining but cannot attend the meeting.

 

Are you interested in other cultures around the world? Are you interested in taking
part in a club that showcases world cultures, food, and have the opportunity for an
authentic experience? If so, then Fanatics for Language and Culture Club (also known as
Foreign Language Club) is for you! Our first meeting will take place this Thursday,
September 14 th from 2:50 PM to approximately 3:30 PM in A219. Don’t be shy! We would
love for you to join us this year for a world culture adventure! If you have any questions,
please contact Madame Skomra.

 

Attention Seniors: If you are seeking scholarship opportunities, then you will want to stop by
the literature rack outside of the Guidance Office to pick up a flyer entitled “Elks Most
Valuable Student Scholarship.” Online applications are being accepted through November 13 th .
They are offering 500 four-year awards, 20 awards worth $30,000 and 480 awards worth
$4,000. The only requirements are that you are a current high school senior and are a United
States citizen.
