Marlee masters yearbook

Despite ups and downs, senior Marlee Baum has been in the yearbook staff for quite some time. Though two years may seem little to some, it’s just enough for her to get through and experience great opportunities.

“My friend was in it a year before me. She said that it was really fun, and we would take pictures and stuff. That’s something we would always do is take pictures. So I was like, I could try that. So I thought it was mostly just taking pictures and stuff, which it wasn’t, but I still enjoy it,” Baum said.

Baum even expressed her so-far experience with yearbook while being a half-cyber student.

“Being in yearbook while being cyber is not challenging at all. In fact, I think that this year has been going way smoother than the past years when I was in school a full day. Since I only go into school strictly for yearbook class, it gives me a lot more time for that to be a higher priority. It also is nice knowing that I can get all my yearbook stuff done in school while having the wiggle room to stay longer in the class if I need to rather than if I would be going to my other classes throughout the day,” Baum said.

Being cyber did not restrict her ability to do some of her favorite things in this activity such as picture day.

“Some of the cool privileges of being in yearbook are probably all the events you get to go to. Being able to go to the games and be actually out on the field to get the best pictures is always fun. It’s fun knowing you get to get out there and other people don’t. Another privilege is being with your friends a lot of the time,” Baum said.

Yearbook is something Baum enjoys doing. Even so, some parts can be a little negative.

“The whole deadline thing is kind of stressful. And the requirements of the photo album stuff is stressful, but I’m a procrastinator, so this is hard for me,” Baum said.

These feelings do not stop Baum from being involved and even improving herself with this activity. She feels it has given her much more in her high school years.

Yearbook has helped me with getting more comfortable talking to people. It has given me a lot more practice and courage to go out and talk to people that I normally wouldn’t talk to. I know a lot of people in the class feel the same way. I also think it has helped a lot with understanding a lot more about the school because you constantly have to be taking note of the events and certain students or teachers that stand out in the school. I probably would not be in the loop if I was not in yearbook,” Baumsaid.

If you’re nervous or pondering about joining the yearbook staff or some of the consequences, Baum provided some good advice.

“I would just say it’s super fun if you stay on top of it. If you’re stressing and worrying about the deadlines, not getting stuff done when you’re supposed to, then it’s not fun. But if you keep up with it, because ultimately, there’s no night class. There’s no homework or anything like that. So it’s not a stressful class unless you make it stressful on yourself. So I think my advice would be to stay on top of it,” Baum said.

Baum is still continuing her yearbook journey today with the support of her friends and family.
