Attention all students: Did you know the high school has its own Art and Literary
Magazine? It’s called Et cetera, and the first organizational meeting for this annual
publication is this week on Wednesday, February 14 th . Information about how to
submit your works of art and creative writing will be available soon, but this meeting is
for anyone interested in being on the magazine’s staff. If you have an interest in art
or an interest in publishing, plan to attend the meeting in Mrs. Lowe’s room (A213)
this Wednesday after school.
Attention Seniors: Please check your emails. The ballot for the Class of 2024 song
and motto is in your email. Please vote by Tuesday, February 13 th at 2:40 PM.
Attention students: The National Honor Society will be collecting clothing for
Rachel’s Closet. This includes casual clothing, but also dress clothes for the Spring
Fling and Prom. If you have any articles of clothing that are clean, without holes or
tears, and otherwise suitable, bring them to Mrs. Dumm’s room, B120. Once collected,
the National Honor Society will present them to Rachel’s closet. Many students do not
have adequate clothing, from regular wear to dress items for events like Prom.
Remember, service is one of the NHS’s principles. Even if you are not a part of the
NHS, your contributions are valuable. Again, bring them to Mrs. Dumm in Room B120.
Attention Galapagos Travelers: Please check our google classroom for information
about an upcoming after school meeting Tuesday, Feb. 13 th , regarding our first
fundraiser. If you cannot attend, please see one of the advisors for info.
Attention Students: A representative from South Hills will be here in the cafeteria
during lunches on Wednesday, February 14 th . Stop by to wish her a happy Valentine’s
Day and check out what South Hills has to offer!
Attention Seniors who have been in the AAHS Music Department for at least
TWO years: The Courage for Kiera Foundation scholarship is now available outside of
the guidance office. Applicants are required to write a 300-word essay about how they
have displayed courage in their lives in memory of AAHS students Kiera Chirdon. The
winner of the scholarship receives $2,500 toward the post-high school education of
their choice, and additional $1000 and $500 scholarships are often awarded.
Submissions must be postmarked by March 8 th . See Miss Fulchiero with any questions.
Attention Seniors: Another scholarship has been added to the literature rack
outside of the Guidance Office. Please stop by to learn more about the
Carol D. Oberneder Scholarship offered by the Altoona Chapter of Business and
Professional Women of PA. Mail-in deadline is Monday, April 15 th .
