In his graduating year and his second year of publishing, Elijah Lucio gives insight into his hobbies and goals for the future.
Q: How did you become interested in yearbook?
A: “I just took Intro to Pub[lications]. I like writing stories and taking photos. I almost actually took both newswriting and yearbook, [but] I was like, ‘maybe not, that’s a lot of work for me. I can do news writing.’ I’m good at that. It’s been pretty chill. I thought I could write good stories. I was like, sure.”
Q: How did this year’s newspaper experience compare with your junior high experience?
A: “I wasn’t in it during junior high at all. I actually was in Intro to Pub last year, my junior year. So then I bumped up to Newswriting Two. I don’t have a lot of experience, but I feel like I learned pretty quickly.”
Q: In your opinion, how would you describe a newspaper student?
A: “A bunch of hard-working students who keep everything flowing in school. They make our school more lively. They represent school spirit.”
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: “I like going to the gym, hanging out with friends. Any sports games I go to, but for the school, football, soccer or anything, I like doing that, and then going on walks with my dog.”
Q: What kind of dog do you have?
A: “He’s a cattle dog. He’s old.”
Q: You mentioned disc golf, what is that?
A: “Disc golf. Essentially, you have a Frisbee. They are more weighted, and you’re essentially playing golf. You have a pole, and they have a chain around it. You’re going across, playing it, trying to get [it in] that. It’s so similar to golf, but you’re just throwing it the entire time.”
Q: What are your favorite things about it?
A: “It’s something to do with friends that is competitive.”
Q: Do you play for the school football team?
A: “The last time I played football for an actual team was in elementary school. It was a random team.”
Q: You mentioned that you like to watch football. What’s your favorite NFL and/or college team?
A: “For the NFL, it’d be Eagles. I’ve been a fan for a long time because I have photos from my parents of when I was six or seven, and I was in Eagles gear. Then for college, it’s Penn State, but it’s a little rough. I dislike Drew Allar.”
Q: So you’re a senior and you’re graduating this year, where do you want to go?
A: “I think Penn State. The main goal right now is to go to Penn State Altoona for two years, then go to the Penn State Main Campus for two years and graduate there, and get a degree in kinesiology.”
Q: If you could tell the world one thing, what would it be?
A: “Be good people, always be nice.”
