On Wednesday, Feb. 4, the Lioneers dance team celebrated their final game of the year and senior night in the field house. They were recognized around 6 p.m., before the varsity boys’ basketball team played Harrisburg.
Parents lined up with their dancers and waited to be announced. The dancer’s name, college they are attending and majors were listed?.
Senior Savana Coho was announced second. She has been on the team for three years.
“I joined the team because all my friends were doing it and it seemed really fun,” Coho said. “I’m really excited because it’s senior year, and I’ve been looking forward to dancing for one last time, but I’m also really sad because that means it has to come to an end. I really enjoy both football and basketball, so it’s going to be hard saying goodbye.”
She will be attending Penn State University in the fall and majoring in political science. She has plans to potentially join a dance club in the future.
Senior Natalie Duffy was announced after Coho. She has also been on the team for three years.
“My favorite memory is football season,” Duffy said. “I think it’s really fun to be at the games and around such a fun atmosphere overall. There’s something nostalgic about it because you’ll never be in high school again.”
She will be attending Lockhaven University and taking part in their physician assistant program. She does not plan on dancing there at the moment.
Senior Hannah Owulade has been on the team for four years and took on the role of captain.
“I’m excited to be with the team for the very last time,” Owulade said. “It’s upsetting because I’m going to really miss the girls, but I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life. Graduating doesn’t feel real right now. I liked taking on the big responsibility of being captain and helping the girls improve themselves because they want to improve themselves.”
She will be attending James Madison University in the fall and majoring in biological sciences.
Junior Mikaela Delasko has been on the team for two years.
“I really appreciate the effort that they [the captains] put into the season, and they’ve always been welcoming,” Delasko said. “I’ll miss the seniors because I feel like I’ve been particularly close with this group since I’m close in age with them. I’ve fostered a bond that I love.”
She will be trying out for the team next year for her third and final season.
Julie Schmoke coaches the Lioneer dance team.
“I will miss this group of seniors’ dedication and positivity,” Schmoke said. “They always brought a kind and encouraging energy to the team and made everyone feel welcome. They took the time to help each other and especially supported girls who were shy. They never made anyone feel left out. Keep chasing your dreams and dancing through every opportunity. You are going to do incredible things.”
