As spring approaches in Pennsylvania, Keystones are upcoming. Passing Keystones is one of the pathways for graduation and is also the most common one. Students take Algebra 1 Keystones in either eighth or ninth grade, Biology Keystones are taken in ninth grade and Literature is taken in tenth grade. Students who fail the exam must retake them.

When asked how they are preparing for Keystone, students shared a variety of strategies they are using to get ready for the exams.

Sophomore Aaliyah Heyward has been putting in extra effort in class.

“I’ve been studying a lot and trying my hardest to pay attention and be present in school,” Heyward said.

Freshman Nina Dunio reviews everything she has learned in class to help her feel more confident going into the test.

“Everything I have learned so far I study so I can hopefully pass,” Dunio said.

Sophomore Lamaa Idriss uses interactive study tools to help her remember key information.

“I use booklet games to help me memorize what I need to,” Idriss said.

Freshman Davion Clemons stays on top of assignments and it is an important part of his preparation.

“I study and make sure to do all of my work and homework,” Celmons said.

Sophomore Addyson Seilhamer uses studying tactics to prepare.

¨I am studying for all the subjects I need to know, I’ve also been using flashcards,¨Seilhamer said.

Sophomore Andrea Young says paying attention in class pays off.

¨I think paying attention in class is one of the most important things for me to ensure I know what I am doing,¨ Young said.

Freshman Brandon Gillam uses videos to help him memorize.

¨If I am not understanding in class I will watch videos of explanations to help me better understand,¨ Gillam said.

As the Keystone Exams get closer, students continue reviewing material and practicing skills they have learned throughout the year, hoping their preparation will pay off when test day arrives.
