The “Et cetera” magazine is the high school’s art and literary magazine that accepts submissions from students. It is advised by English teacher Jen Lowe.
“The most popular submissions are poems and drawings, but students can submit any creative writing and any form of visual art, such as paintings, sculptures, mixed media and photos,” Lowe said.
There are typically over one hundred submissions every year. Due to the number of pages in the full-color book, only about 50 to 60 submissions are displayed.
Senior Reyna Ospina-Nunes is a returning member of the magazine’s staff. She is Editor-in-Chief this year.
“When I moved here from Florida in tenth grade, I decided to join the magazine after hearing about it from Mrs. Lowe in class,” Ospina Nunes said. “I think [the magazine] is important because oftentimes the arts are not really appreciated as much and it’s really great for kids that want to go into a career, [in the arts] having said that they were published in something.”
She submitted a painting last year and has been on the staff for three years.
Junior Adrian Pacifico joined the staff after hearing about it on Lowe’s Scholastic Scrimmage team. Together, the staff has worked to spread awareness about the magazine.
“We used Canva a lot and went to art classes,” Pacifico said. “We emailed people and reached out about their stories. We also put out posters telling people where to go if they wanted to send their drawings in.”
Submissions are due by April 2 and the magazine will be sold in May.
“The ‘Et cetera’ magazine is an excellent opportunity to showcase your work in a professionally printed publication,” Lowe said. “It also provides one of the few forums for young writers and visual artists to have their work recognized. New members to the staff are always welcome.”

I think they should put every submission in the magazine you only hear about the people that got in but never about the people whose dreams got crushed and effects unnoticed. (No hate is meant )
