On April 2, the girls’ softball team will take on Cumberland Valley at Logan Elementary at 4:15 p.m. They are coached by English teacher Alyssa Rumberger.
“We have the potential to be competitive in every game we play this year,” Rumberger said. “We are in a very strong conference, and we will need to play our best in order to compete at the level we are capable of. We have a very strong senior group this year that has been playing together for a long time, and we will rely on their experience and leadership, combined with the young talent we have coming up.”
The softball team’s spring season has just begun, and Rumberger hopes to focus on strengthening the girls’ defense.
Senior Kaya Sprankle joined the girls’ softball team her freshman year. She also plays for the Central Pennsylvania Wolf Pack outside of the high school team.
“It feels really good knowing that I’ve been working hard the past four years and being able to play with people that I’ve played with forever is an amazing feeling,” Sprankle said. “This will definitely be a tough game.”
Senior Lilly Snyder has played softball all four years at the high school. She plays softball outside of the school and began when she was 6-years-old.
“Cumberland Valley is one of the best teams in our conference,” Snyder said. “Kids transfer there [Cumberland Valley] to go D1. I’m trying to focus more on the team aspect of the game because this is my last year and I don’t know when I’ll see anyone after our season ends.”
Rumberger’s goal for the team is to begin putting the ball in play consistently and continue to build their confidence as the season progresses.
“One thing we can improve on right now is making adjustments at the plate earlier in the game,” Rumberger said. “This will allow us to have better at bats and begin putting the ball in play and getting runners on base. One thing we are doing well right now is keeping our energy up and not letting mistakes ‘snowball’ on defense. I think we are starting our season in a good place mentally, and we hope to make progress in each game throughout the season and build on what we have learned from previous games. I am proud of the work our players have put in so far this year and am excited to see us progress as the season goes on.”
