The academic excellence banquet will be held on May 20 in the open cafeteria at 6 p.m.. All National Honor Society (NHS) members are invited to attend. They have the opportunity to bring two guests.
NHS adviser Deidra Dumm will also be in attendance.
“A full dinner will be served, all students will be recognized for their accomplishments and provided with a plaque,” Dumm said.
Each student’s future plans will be shown on a slideshow. If they are attending college, their university and major will be on display.
Secretary Jaleesa Jackson helps organize the event.
“Students who are NHS members, PAEE winners and National Merit Scholars are invited,” Jackson said. “Mr. Brad Hatch will be speaking and Mr. Andrew Neely or Mrs. Keri Harrington will be introducing students.”
School board members and department heads will also be there.
Senior NHS member Korbyn Clifford will be going to Point Park University in the fall to major in broadcasting.
“Being part of the NHS means a lot to me because it shows that my efforts and achievements in school mean something,” Clifford said. “It feels good to know that studying all the time and making sure I do good in my classes paid off.”
His major goal is to pursue a career in technical producing for a television show.
Senior NHS member Sage Bower plans to attend Saint Francis University. She wants to research environmental studies.
“It’s an honor to be a part of the NHS since there are so few people inducted,” Bower said. “It’s cool to be recognized for my achievements.”
